Part 1: How Toto Came Home — टोटो घर कैसे आया

Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga-driver for just five rupees. The little red monkey was tied to a feeding-trough. Grandfather felt sorry and added him to his private zoo.

दादाजी ने टोटो को एक तांगेवाले से सिर्फ पाँच रुपए में खरीदा। छोटे लाल बंदर को एक खाने के बर्तन से बाँधा गया था। दादाजी को दया आई और उन्होंने टोटो को अपने private zoo में शामिल किया।

Part 2: Toto’s Appearance — टोटो कैसा दिखता था

Toto was described as a ‘pretty monkey’ — but ‘pretty’ here means mischievously attractive, not gentle.

Grandmother did not like the new animals. So Toto was hidden in a bedroom cupboard, tied to a peg. But Toto tore the wallpaper, wrenched the peg out, and shredded the school blazer!

Part 4: Train Journey to Saharanpur — सहारनपुर यात्रा

Grandfather had to collect his pension. Toto was put in a big black canvas kit-bag. On the Dehra Dun platform, the bag rolled and jumped — attracting a crowd!

दादाजी पेंशन लेने जा रहे थे। टोटो को काले canvas bag में रखा। Platform पर bag उछलने-कूदने लगा — लोग इकट्ठे हो गए!

Funny moment: At the turnstile, Toto poked his head out and GRINNED at the ticket-collector! The collector said: “Sir, you have a dog. Pay accordingly!”

Turnstile पर टोटो ने सिर बाहर निकाला और मुस्कुराया! Ticket collector ने कहा — ‘कुत्ता है, किराया दो!’ तीन रुपए किराया लिया।

Counter by Grandfather: He showed the tortoise and asked: “What must I pay for THIS?” — Collector: “No charge. It is not a dog.” 😂

Part 5: Toto’s Bath — टोटो का स्नान

Toto loved warm baths. He tested the temperature with his hand, stepped in foot by foot, soaped himself, and ran to the kitchen fire to dry — exactly like humans!

टोटो गर्म पानी में नहाना पसंद करता था। हाथ से जाँचता, धीरे-धीरे अंदर जाता, साबुन लगाता, आग के पास सूखता — बिल्कुल इंसानों जैसे!

KETTLE INCIDENT: Found a kettle boiling on fire — got in! Water boiled — kept bobbing up and down. Grandmother pulled him out HALF-BOILED!

उबलती केतली मिली — घुस गया! पानी उबलने लगा — ऊपर-नीचे होता रहा। दादी माँ ने आधा उबला हुआ बाहर निकाला!

Part 6: The Pullao Incident — पुलाव की घटना

At lunch, Toto found a dish of pullao and started eating. Grandmother screamed → Toto threw a plate! Aunt rushed → Toto threw water! Then he escaped through the window with the whole dish to the jackfruit tree.

दोपहर को पुलाव मिला — खाने लगा। दादी चिल्लाई → थाली फेंकी! आंटी आई → गिलास फेंका! खिड़की से पूरी थाली लेकर ‘कटहल’ (Jackfruit tree) के पेड़ पर चढ़ा।

He ate every grain slowly. Then, to spite Grandmother, he threw the dish down — breaking it into 100 pieces!

सारा चावल खाया। फिर दादी को चिढ़ाने के लिए थाली ज़मीन पर दे मारी — सौ टुकड़े! दादाजी का 2 रुपए का नुकसान।

Part 7: The End — कहानी का अंत

“Obviously, Toto was not the sort of pet we could keep for long.”

They were not wealthy — couldn’t afford constant damage. Grandfather sold Toto back to the same tonga-driver for only 3 rupees — bought for 5, sold for 3. A 2-rupee loss!
